Ralph Schivone Lockeroom

Ralph Schivone, 85, described recently by one player as "the heart and soul of UA baseball" (UA This Week, 4/29/09), stepped up as a volunteer UAHS coach in 1989. Over the course of 20 years, hundreds of players, six head coaches and hours in the dugout, Ralph continues to earn the affection and respect of players, coaches, school officials and parents. In 2009, he was inducted in to the Central Ohio Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

As a young man, Ralph pitched for Drake University and pursued the minor leagues before being called to the really big show where he served in the Navy as a medical corpsman in the South Pacific Theater in WWII.

Back home, Ralph and Paula, his wife of 46 years, settled in Upper Arlington. Three of their children graduated from UAHS; in 1983, son Joe was MVP for the Golden Bears!

To honor Ralph's years of service and to recognize the heartfelt appreciation of the baseball community, efforts commenced in 2009 to establish the Ralph Schivone Locker Room inside the UAHS David Marsalka Baseball Club House. Grateful thanks to all of the donors* listed below for their generous contributions towards improvements in the locker room and for the plaque which will provide much-deserved recognition for Ralph's achievements at his home field.
