SAM CLARK

Head Varsity Coach
 

Sam Clark enters his sixth season as the Head Varsity Baseball Coach at his alma mater. Before becoming the Head Coach, Clark served as the Head Junior Varsity Coach (2018) and Head Freshman Coach (2015-2017) at Upper Arlington High School. Before coaching at Upper Arlington, Clark coached travel and Legion baseball in the Columbus area. 

Under Clark’s leadership, the Golden Bears have captured OCC (2019) and District Championships (2019) and have one appearance in the Regional Final (2019).  During his tenure, the Golden Bears hold an overall record of 74-40 (.649)

Last season, Clark led the Golden Bears to a twenty-win regular season, the program's first twenty-win regular season in 20 years, en route to a second-place finish in the OCC Central.

Coach Clark is a 2010 graduate of Upper Arlington High School and was a captain of the 2010 team that captured Upper Arlington’s 19th District Championship. Clark is a by-product of Miami (OH) University, where he majored in Early Childhood Education. Clark plans to graduate with a Master's Degree in Teaching and Learning from The Ohio State University this Spring. During the day, Clark is a 5th-grade math teacher at Greensview Elementary in Upper Arlington. Clark participates in the Central District, Ohio, National, and American Baseball Coaches Associations. Sam resides in Upper Arlington with his wife, Jordan, ~2-year-old twin boys, Cooke & Carter, dogs, Bodhi & Lucy, and soon-to-be daughter in June.


TODD PFEIL

Varsity Assistant Coach
 

Todd Pfeil enters his 23rd season as an assistant baseball coach at Upper Arlington High School, currently working with pitchers and catchers. Pfeil graduated from Upper Arlington High School and was a member of the 1990 state championship team. Pfeil went on to attend Eastern Kentucky University and was a member of the Colonel’s baseball team. Coach Pfeil also serves as an assistant coach for the Golden Bears football team. Todd was inducted into the Upper Arlington Baseball Hall of Fame for his contributions both as a player and coach in 2023. He resides in Upper Arlington with his wife Renee, and his two children, Sebastian and Veronica.


NATE CAMPBELL

Varsity Assistant Coach
 

Nate Campbell enters his 10th season as an assistant varsity baseball coach at Upper Arlington High School and works with hitters, outfielders, and base runners. Nate is a product of Capital University, where he was a four-year letter winner and Academic All-American. To remind himself of how hard baseball is, Nate spends his summers playing for the Columbus Pirates of the MSBL. Campbell, a native of Latrobe, PA, is employed as a Director of Merchant Support at Loop, and resides in Upper Arlington with his wife, Emily, and dogs, Ruca & Steel.


JOSEPH JUZA

Varsity Assistant Coach
 

Joseph Juza enters his fifth season as an assistant baseball coach at Upper Arlington High School and currently works with pitchers. Juza is a product of The Ohio State University, where he played club baseball for 3 years, and was an All-American pitcher. For the past 5 seasons he has coached the Club Baseball team at Ohio State and has amassed a record of 111-19, with 1 National Championship, 3 regional title appearances, and 4 conference titles. Juza, a native of Saint Joseph, MI, is employed as the Director of Center Experience at Balanced Family Academy, and resides in Columbus. 


KYLE DAVIS

VARSITY ASSISTANT Coach
 

Kyle Davis, now in his seventh season as a baseball coach for Upper Arlington High School, and enters his second season as an assistant Varsity coach for the 2024 season. Before coaching in Upper Arlington, Kyle spent 2 seasons coaching football and baseball in Hilliard. He is a product of Miami University where he majored in finance and currently teaches a variety of business courses at the high school. Kyle resides in Hilliard with his wife, Ashlee, and their son, Thomas.


BEN WAY

Junior VARSITY HEAD Coach
 

Ben Way, now in his fifth season as a baseball coach at Upper Arlington High School, enters his second season as the Head JV Coach. Way graduated from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, where he studied Business Administration and Sports Management and played on the university's baseball team. He calls Upper Arlington home, where he lives with his wife, Kait, and their three children: Emmett, Charlie, and Mina.

Having dedicated 12 years to various management and leadership roles within Healthcare IT, Way decided to follow his passion for sports and player development and pursue a career in sport psychology. After completing his Master's Degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology, he founded Mindbound Performance, a mental training practice aimed at empowering athletes, specifically focusing on enhancing mental and emotional resilience in high school and youth athletes.


JOSH CAMPANELLA

Junior Varsity Assistant Coach
 

Josh Campanella begins his second season as an Assistant JV Coach at Upper Arlington High School and his 7th season coaching overall. Josh spent three seasons as an assistant baseball coach at Capital University along with two years working out of TNT Baseball Academy in Worthington. Josh is a 2011 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, a Division II school competing in the PSAC in Johnstown, PA. As a member of the baseball program, Josh was a 4-year starter in the infield and ranks in the top 5 of multiple career and single-season offensive records. He is currently employed by CoverMyMeds as a Director of Health Services and resides in Lewis Center with his wife, Stephanie, daughter, Colette, and dog, Butters.


BRETT THOMAS

JUNIOR VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH
 

Brett Thomas enters his second season as an Assistant Junior Varsity Coach at Upper Arlington High School where he will work with pitchers. Brett is a 2009 graduate of Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio where he majored in Business Administration and was a 3-year letter winner as a starting pitcher for the Purple Raiders. He is currently employed by OhioHealth as a Manager, Talent Acquisition and resides in Clintonville with his wife, Julie.


OWEN ROSE

JUNIOR VARSITY (B) HEAD Coach
 

Owen Rose enters his fifth season as a baseball coach for Upper Arlington High School and his second season as JVB head coach in 2024. Owen has previously coached travel baseball including UAJBA/UABA for four summers. Rose also coaches hockey at UAHS and serves as JV goalie coach. He is a 2018 graduate of Olentangy Liberty High School and will graduate this May with a degree in Special Education from Western Governors University. Owen will be getting married this spring to his fiancé Brianna and resides in Columbus.


VINNY BONTA

JUNIOR VARSITY (B) ASSISTANT COACH

 

Vinny Bonta enters his second season with Upper Arlington High School, serving as an assistant JVB coach.  Vinny has spent two seasons with Jones Middle School and two seasons with UAJBA. Vinny is a graduate of Upper Arlington High School and was a captain on the 2013 team. Vinny went on to receive his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and then received a master's degree in counseling from the University of Dayton. Vinny now resides in Clintonville. 


JOE GAHM

Junior Varsity (B) Assitant Coach
 

Joe Gahm begins his first season with Upper Arlington High School as an assistant coach and pitching coach at the JVB level. Gahm is a graduate of The Ohio State University where he was a 3 year member of the baseball team and 2019 Big 10 Tournament Champion. Joe is currently employed at Tremont Elementary School where he works as a paraprofessional. He resides in Upper Arlington with his girlfriend Carley. 


RYAN JOHNSTON

Assistant Coach
 

Ryan Johnston begins his first season as an Upper Arlington High School assistant coach. He will be working with the infielders and defense primarily. Ryan is a graduate of Bowling Green State University where he was a 5 year member of the baseball team and a 5 year starter in the infield at Shortstop. Ryan achieved both his Bachelors and MBA in Finance from BGSU. Ryan is currently employed at Western & Southern Financial Group as a Financial Advisor. Ryan resides in Upper Arlington with his girlfriend Nikki and their 1 year old daughter Maeve.
